{"id":31992,"date":"2025-02-21T14:06:32","date_gmt":"2025-02-21T09:36:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rukhshana.com\/?p=31992"},"modified":"2025-02-21T14:06:35","modified_gmt":"2025-02-21T09:36:35","slug":"taliban-rejects-icc-jurisdiction-and-arrest-warrants-calling-court-politically-biased","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rukhshana.com\/en\/taliban-rejects-icc-jurisdiction-and-arrest-warrants-calling-court-politically-biased\/","title":{"rendered":"Taliban rejects ICC jurisdiction and arrest warrants, calling court politically biased"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Taliban has rejected the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and declared the Rome Statute non-binding on their governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/FitratHamd\/status\/1892452095237804273\">statement<\/a> released Thursday, the group said its rule is based in Islamic law and not international legal frameworks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe historical record of this \u2018court\u2019 unequivocally demonstrates that, rather than adhering to the principles of justice and impartiality, it has consistently operated in accordance with political considerations,\u201d the Taliban said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, which advocates for mutual respect and principled engagement with other nations, fundamentally rejects such an approach.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Taliban accused the ICC of political bias, arguing the court is not grounded in justice and fairness, as it dismissed the previous Afghan government\u2019s membership in 2003 as \u201cunlawful\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn numerous countries, including Afghanistan, millions of innocent civilians &#8211; predominantly women and children &#8211; have suffered oppression and been subjected to acts of violence. However, this \u2018court\u2019 has conspicuously failed to address these egregious injustices,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The<a href=\"https:\/\/rukhshana.com\/en\/icc-chief-prosecutor-seeks-arrest-warrants-for-taliban-leaders-over-persecution-of-women\"> ICC chief prosecutor issued arrest warrants in January f<\/a>or Taliban supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada and the head of the Taliban\u2019s Supreme Court Abdul Hakim Haqqani on charges of crimes against humanity and gender persecution of women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The move was widely welcomed by political opposition groups, civil society activists, human rights defenders, and various governments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, human rights organizations and activists have voiced concerns that issuing arrest warrants alone is not enough.
