Instead of marching on the streets, a group of Afghan women initiated a different form of protest in which they went to a park and demanded their rights by showing that they can go out without a male chaperone and have fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today, September 30, a group of women went to Chehel Sutton Park in Kabul, where they talked, eat and laughed together for a few hours and held signs that read, \u201cwomen cannot be marginalized\u201d and \u201cwomen\u2019s voices cannot be removed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe purpose of our protest is to show that women have the freedom and rights to have fun\u201d said Zahra Mohammadi who participated in the initiative, \u201cwe want to show that women can go out without a male chaperone and they can enjoy their life and their freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We can live happily, we can wear colorful clothes, we can wear high heels, we can put on perfume, we can laugh together and we can meet with our friends,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier today, female students and teachers have organized a protest near two girls\u2019 high schools, demanding the immediate reopening of school for girls. Mohammadi said that they had planned to join the teachers and students protest and then go to a Park nearby, but when the Taliban violently dispersed the protesters, they changed their plan and went to Chehel Sutton Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The protest took place days after a Taliban member told Tolonews that women should not use perfume, should not wear colorful clothes, and should not wear high heels as it would attract young men.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
