{"id":37717,"date":"2026-08-07T10:51:01","date_gmt":"2026-08-07T07:21:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rukhshana.com\/en\/?p=37717"},"modified":"2026-08-07T10:51:02","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T07:21:02","slug":"taliban-say-women-should-not-leave-home-without-husbands-permission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rukhshana.com\/en\/taliban-say-women-should-not-leave-home-without-husbands-permission\/","title":{"rendered":"Taliban say women should not leave home without husband\u2019s permission"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Taliban have said women should not leave the house without their husband\u2019s permission, warning that the devil lies in wait when a woman ventures outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The advice, issued by the Taliban&#8217;s Ministry of Hajj and Religious Affairs on August 6, also states that women have a religious obligation to obey and serve their husbands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Taliban have told imams to share the new guidance &#8211; entitled &#8220;The Importance and Necessity of Protecting the Family System&#8221; &#8211; at Friday prayers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhenever (a woman) leaves her home, Satan turns his attention towards her and lies in wait for her,&#8221; it says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Among a husband&#8217;s rights is the right to keep his wife at home; in other words, a woman is prohibited from going out and appearing in public.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In its statement, the ministry describes a woman as \u201cawrah\u201d &#8211; a term which usually refers to the parts of the body that are private and must be concealed. The Taliban have previously referred to a woman\u2019s voice as \u201cawrah\u201d and have said women should not speak in public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ministry of Hajj and Religious Affairs also recognises polygamy in its guidance, saying that men with more than one wife should \u201ctreat their wives justly\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Taliban have issued scores of orders restricting women\u2019s rights and freedoms since seizing power in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Women already have to wear a face covering when leaving home, must often be accompanied by a male guardian, and are banned from<a href=\"https:\/\/rukhshana.com\/en\/afghanistans-taliban-rulers-ban-make-up-and-perfume-for-brides-in-new-weddings-clampdown\/\"> parks and other recreational spaces<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The latest guidance also instructs women to be patient in the face of poverty &#8211; which has escalated in recent years &#8211; and not discuss their family&#8217;s financial problems with others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Taliban have said women should not leave the house without their husband\u2019s permission, warning that the devil lies in wait when a woman ventures outside.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":37718,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_feature_clip_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"jnews-multi-image_gallery":[],"jnews_single_post":{"format":"standard"},"jnews_primary_category":[],"jnews_override_counter":[],"footnotes":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false},"categories":[900,9581],"tags":[11557,11558],"class_list":["post-37717","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news-en","category-our-work-en","tag-husbands-permission","tag-talibans-ministry-of-hajj-and-religious-affairs"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.2 -
