Rukhshana Media is looking for an Editorial Assistant on a short-term consultancy basis to support the team, Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor and Board of Trustees. The ideal candidate will speak and write English and either Farsi or Pashto, will be based remotely but with permission to work where they are based, and be flexible to work the equivalent of four days over a week. The position reports to the Editor-in-Chief of Rukhshana Media, Zahra Joya, and Managing Editor, Liz Shaw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rukhshana Media, established in 2020, is an online news agency and UK charity focused on covering issues that affect women and girls in Afghanistan. Zahra Joya is the Editor-in-Chief of Rukhshana Media, leading a team of reporters within Afghanistan reporting on what life is like for women and girls living under Taliban rule. The platform publishes in English, Farsi and Pashto and has a wide reach within Afghanistan and globally via its website, social media channels and recently created monthly newsletter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We are looking for a hardworking and motivated Editorial Assistant to directly support Rukhshana Media\u2019s editorial team. This role is primarily an administrative support position with potential for developing journalistic and editorial skills. If you are an editorial assistant or early career journalist with excellent language, organisational and online production skills, this position could be right for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
1. Database and Archive Management<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Organise, catalogue and maintain the organisation\u2019s databases and archives
\u2022 Maintain a clear and searchable system for assets (eg photos and videos)
\u2022 Ensure rights are cleared and relevant records kept<\/p>\n\n\n\n
2. Editorial and Content Support<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Suggest, source and manage images for the newsletter and other editorial outputs
\u2022 Support the editorial team with planning, and research and content preparation where appropriate<\/p>\n\n\n\n
3. Newsletter Support<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Assist with the preparation, production and distribution of the newsletter
\u2022 Maintain the database of users in line with UK GDPR legislation
\u2022 Propose suitable visuals and ensure consistency and quality
\u2022 Maintain an online archive of published newsletters<\/p>\n\n\n\n
4. Social Media<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Social media tasks, including:
– Posting content
– Coordinating with the editorial team
– Maintaining tone, accuracy and language quality across platforms
– Monitoring audience responses<\/p>\n\n\n\n
6. Internal Coordination and Logging<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Liaise with the editorial team to understand what each member is working on
\u2022 Keep a clear log of ongoing work, projects and outputs
\u2022 Support transparency and efficient workflow within the team<\/p>\n\n\n\n
7. Administrative Support<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Provide general administrative support to the editorial team and Board
\u2022 Assist with organisational tasks that support the team<\/p>\n\n\n\n
8. Skills and Requirements<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Excellent written and spoken language skills (English plus Farsi or Pashto)
\u2022 Proactive and highly organised with effective administration skills, and detail-oriented
\u2022 Strong communication abilities
\u2022 High level of digital literacy and confidence using a range of online tools
\u2022 Knowledge of how to collect audience data and present analytics
\u2022 Working knowledge of MS Office, Adobe InDesign, and content management systems (such as WordPress). Knowledge of working with a CRM would be desirable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Consultancy contract ending 21 January 2027 with possible potential to extend.
\u2022 Four days per week, can be worked flexibly over a full week by agreement.
\u2022 Fee: \u00a3130 per day.
\u2022 The consultant will work remotely but with a team based in the UK so will need to observe relevant working hours. Ideal base is the UK or in a similar time zone.
\u2022 Candidates must have access to their own computer and WiFi.
