{"id":5595,"date":"2022-01-04T22:22:53","date_gmt":"2022-01-04T17:52:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rukhshana.com\/?p=5595"},"modified":"2022-01-04T22:22:56","modified_gmt":"2022-01-04T17:52:56","slug":"we-are-starving-but-the-taliban-are-concerned-with-womens-hair-and-faces-say-women-protesters-in-parwan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rukhshana.com\/en\/we-are-starving-but-the-taliban-are-concerned-with-womens-hair-and-faces-say-women-protesters-in-parwan\/","title":{"rendered":"We are starving, but the Taliban are concerned with women\u2019s \u201chair and faces\u201d say women protesters in Parwan"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Rukhshana Media&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In response to the Taliban\u2019s restriction on women\u2019s rights, a group of women gathered in an indoor space in Sayed Khel district of central Parwan province on Tuesday, calling on the Taliban to respect women\u2019s rights to education, work, and freedom, according to an organizer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe demand the Islamic Emirate to [respect] our rights to education, work, and freedom,\u201d Shila Bawar, an organizer of the protest said in a video of the gathering shared with Rukhshana Media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe demand the international community to not recognize the Taliban until they recognize [women], until they respect women\u2019s rights to work, education, and freedom,\u201d Bawar told Rukhshana Media in a phone interview.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the most recent crackdown on women\u2019s rights, the Taliban\u2019s Ministry of Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice has banned out-of-province travel for women without a <em>Mahram<\/em>, a male chaperone. The ministry accepts no exception for widows and divorced women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe women who lost their husbands in decades long war, they don\u2019t have <em>Mahram<\/em>, how should they bring food for their children? If they can\u2019t work in society, how can they survive? for how long can they beg?\u201d Bawar asked in the videos, demanding the international community to pressure the Taliban into respecting women\u2019s rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe, the women and girls of Parwan have not remained silent\u2026 we raised our voice against a group whom we are their main problem. While we are living under the poverty line, the statements of Islamic Emirate are about women\u2019s hair and faces,\u201d reads a statement issued by the protesters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It has been more than four months since women are organizing protests in different parts of Afghanistan, mainly in the capital, Kabul, asking the Taliban to respect their rights and the international community to not recognize the Taliban.
