{"id":8781,"date":"2022-05-08T02:27:38","date_gmt":"2022-05-07T21:57:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rukhshana.com\/?p=8781"},"modified":"2022-05-08T02:27:39","modified_gmt":"2022-05-07T21:57:39","slug":"taliban-order-afghan-women-to-wear-burqa-or-face-the-consequences","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rukhshana.com\/en\/taliban-order-afghan-women-to-wear-burqa-or-face-the-consequences\/","title":{"rendered":"Taliban order Afghan women to wear burqa or face the consequences"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By: Rukhshana Media <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Taliban\u2019s Ministry of Propagation of Vice and Promotion of Virtue has announced new guidelines, warning if women don\u2019t wear full veil when they leave home they themselves and their male relatives would be punished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Burqa has been defined as the \u201cbest\u201d hijab, and other clothes and scarves which cover from head-to-toe and don\u2019t expose women\u2019s body curves are also accepted as hijab, according to the guidelines announced by the Taliban on Saturday, May 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The women who don\u2019t wear \u201cproper hijab\u201d and their male \u201cguardians\u201d would be prosecuted, imprisoned, and punished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The female government employees who violate the new restrictions would be fired immediately. And the male government employees whose wives and daughters don\u2019t wear full veil would be suspended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new guidelines strongly recommends women to not leave home if not necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Taliban\u2019s new draconian restrictions drew widespread condemnation from the Afghan women and international community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nafisa Bahar, a 29-year-old woman in Kabul, said compulsory hijab is a kind of violence against women. She accused the Taliban of trying to eliminate women from society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She said she is against \u201ccompulsory hijab\u201d and that the Taliban are actually making people \u201chate\u201d Islam by imposing these restrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI do not like to wear black hijab and I never wear a burqa,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Forough Rezai, a 23-year-old woman, said she opposes the Taliban\u2019s decision because she \u201chas never worn a burqa\u201d in her entire life, and that she doesn\u2019t feel comfortable wearing it in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The United Nations Assistance Missions in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said in a statement that it is \u201cdeeply concerned\u201d about the new guidelines which \u201ccontradicts\u201d the Taliban\u2019s past assurances that they would respect the human rights of Afghans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cUNAMA will immediately request meetings with the Taliban de facto authorities to seek clarification on the status of this decision,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Taliban have imposed numerous restrictions on women since they took power last year. Millions of girls are out of school. Women aren\u2019t allowed to travel long distances without a male companion.
