Afghanistan’s total population is around 34.3 million in 1401 solar year, the country’s National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA) estimates.
Of 34.3 million, 16.8 million which make up 49 percent are women, and 17.5 million which is 51 percent are men, Hasibullah Moahid, deputy of NSIA said in a press conference today,30th March.
The estimate shows 24.2 million live in rural Afghanistan, 8.6 million live in urban areas, and 1.5 million are Kochis.
The report estimated that 45.5 percent of the population are under the age of 15, and 49.7 percent are eligible for work, and 2.7 percent are over 64.
The National Statistics and Information Authority added that 3,769 Afghans are infected with HIV last solar year (1400) but it did not provide further information on how many of them are women.
