Abdul Rawoof, a teenage boy, kidnapped two years ago in northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif, was rescued and reunited with his family.
Abdul Salam Hanafi, the Taliban’s deputy prime minister, told journalists in Balkh that the Taliban’s intelligence agency rescued the 11-year-old boy on Saturday, April 23.
Hanafi said the kidnappers had close ties with officials of the former government. He said the Taliban will provide more details about the kidnapping soon.
The kidnappers demanded $ 1.5 million to release the boy. Former president Ashraf Ghani’s government failed to rescue the boy.
Meanwhile, the Taliban in Kandahar province announced two more children, who were kidnapped two years ago, were also rescued by the Taliban recently.
