The Afghan Women’s Advocacy Group called on international aid organizations to immediately provide humanitarian assistance for those who were displaced by the ongoing conflict in northern Afghanistan.
In an open letter addressed to over two dozen international aid organizations, the group said that thousands of internally displaced people from Balkhab, Andarab and Panjshir provinces were in dire need of assistance.
“This is a humanitarian emergency which requires an urgent and indiscriminate response by international aid agencies active in Afghanistan,” the letter said about Balkhab displaced people.
The group also asked aid agencies not to provide aid directly to the Taliban. The group said the Taliban have received nearly a billion dollars in humanitarian assistance since they took power, and it has “credible” reports that they have spent the money to pay for the logistical supplies for fighters who “are involved in war crimes.”
The Afghan Women’s Advocacy Group also praised the aid agencies for their timely response to the earthquake in eastern Afghanistan which left around a thousand dead.
