A young woman and man have been shot dead after being accused of fornication in Nangarhar province’s Nazian district, according to the Taliban local administration provincial report.
Abdul Basir Zabuli, the Taliban spokesman of Nangarhar police, told the media that the murders occurred around 9.00AM Saturday in the Milawi area of Nazian district of this province.
The man named Nemat and a female victim, who was not named, were allegedly shot and killed by the woman’s uncle, Mr Zabuli said.
Quoting comments made by the family members of the dead, Mr Zabuli said that the man and woman were in a relationship and when the man went to visit the woman at her house, they were both allegedly killed by the girl’s uncle.
Mr Zabuli said that the suspect fled from the scene after killing them and is still missing.
He added that the gun used on the victims was recovered and is now in the hands of the Taliban forces.
He said an investigation is underway and they are searching for the woman’s uncle to arrest him.
Murders of women and girls have been reportedly rising in some provinces of the country.
Taliban officials have said that the main motive of these events is domestic disputes and violence.
