Taliban lashed a man and a woman for adultery in central Ghor province, local Taliban officials said.
Samim Mahajer, the head of Ghor persecution office, said both had engaged in outside marriage sexual intercourse.
“It does not matter if the world recognizes us, what matters is the recognition of Allah that accepts us for his slavery,” he said in a Facebook post. “We abide by that.”
Abdul Wahid Hammas, the Taliban’s provincial spokesperson, told local media in Ghor province that the man and the woman were arrested a few days ago from a hospital for having illegal relationship. They were sentenced to 39 lashes each after the courts found them guilty.
A local source who spoke on condition of anonymity said the man and woman were from Char Saddah district and were lashed in the center of the city.
“Taliban lash women publically under various pretexts in Ghor province,” he said. He adds that he has witnessed the Taliban lashed several women who went to the city without male family members accompanying them.
