Moby Group, Afghanistan’s largest media company, said in a tweet the Taliban’s government ordered all female presenters working with TOLO NEWS and other outlets affiliated with MOBY Group to cover their faces while they are on screen, presenting programs.
The new draconian restriction will be imposed on all female journalists and media outlets currently working in Afghanistan, and it was a “final and non-negotiable” decision, according to the tweet.
The decision was announced to the Moby Group by the Taliban’s Ministry of Information and Culture, and the Ministry of Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, known as religious police. Moby Group has several TV channels and radio stations in Afghanistan.
The Taliban’s top spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, told a gathering — on the same day his government imposed new restrictions on female journalists — that “Islamic Emirate fully support the country’s media,” according to Bakhtar, the Taliban’s state news agency.
