A delegation from the Taliban’s Interior Ministry met the family of Alia Azizi, the female police officer of the former government, who went missing in Herat province soon after Taliban took power over a year ago, a source said.
The source, who is Azizi’s relative and spoke on the condition of anonymity, said seven Taliban officials, who traveled from Kabul to Herat, met Rohullah, Azizi’s son, in the governor’s office last Sunday, asking him questions about his mother’s whereabouts.
The officials asked Azizi’s son about the possibility of his mother fleeing Afghanistan during the evacuation process, and if the family is suspicious of anyone.
The source added that the Taliban said they were sent from Kabul to investigate Aziz’s case without giving any new details to her family.
Azizi, who was the director of the female prison in Herat during the former government, went missing one year ago after she was called by the Taliban to return to office after they seized power.
Earlier Rohullah, Azizi’s son, had told Rukhshana Media that the last call his mother received was from within the prison. The Taliban local officials in Herat had also told the family that Azizi had fled Afghanistan.
