A young man and woman from Dolina district of Ghor province who fled their houses to get married were arrested by the Taliban. The Taliban shot dead the man and they are going to stone to death the woman in public on Friday, October 14, local sources said.
According to local sources who preferred not to be named due to security reasons, the victim is identified as Sirajuddin, a resident of Sirzaar village of Dolina district and the woman is 24-year-old Salima, who is a resident of Berinji village of the district.
The sources said that Sirajuddin and Salima had left their homes on Monday, October 10.
The sources added that the Taliban took Salima with them to the center of Dolina district and they are going to stone her to death in public on Friday.
The families of Sirajuddin and Salima cannot say anything to the media because of the fear of the Taliban, but their relatives say that the Taliban ordered Salima to be stoned to death because she was married, sources said.
Abolfida Ghor Badri, the Taliban’s spokesperson for Ghor’s police chief denied the authenticity of the news via a Whatsapp message.
“This is completely untrue.”
However, Badri confirmed Sirajuddin’s death by the Taliban forces.
“The security forces tried to prevent Sirajuddin from escaping at night,” Badri wrote to Rukshana Media. “But he was hit mistakenly because it was dark.”
In 2015, a kangaroo court in Ghor province stoned 19-year-old Rukhshana to death, for having fled after a forced marriage.
