Several women marched in front of a school in Kabul to protest against the closure of girls’ schools above the sixth grade on Saturday morning, October 29 but were allegedly dispersed and reported to the Taliban.
A video seen by Rukhshana Media shows that several female protesters with students of Alfath High School gathered in Makrorian 3 area of Kabul city to urge the reopening of classes for girls above the sixth grade, where they claim the principal of the school has reported their protest to the Taliban and they are being followed.
“Fearless education,” the protesters chanted.
Allegedly the principal of the school did not allow the protesters and their daughters to enter the school.
“I have four daughters who are in 11th and 12th grades, but are banned from going to their schools.” A woman who participated in the protest says.
According to her, her daughters wanted to participate in the university entrance exam to continue their higher studies, but due to the closure of girls’ schools, they could not.
She urges that the international community should seriously address the issue of girls’ schools.
Several other protesters say that their daughters have suffered mental stress and severe depression due to the deprivation of education.
It has been more than 400 days since millions of Afghan girls are deprived of education after the Taliban seized power in mid-August last year.
