The Taliban Vice and Virtue police have beaten and arrested several girls and women in Dasht-e-Barchi neighborhood of Kabul for not adhering to the clothing order, local sources told Rukhshana Media.
The sources said they were arrested for wearing short skirts and jeans.
They were arrested on Monday morning around 11:00 a.m. from several parts of Barchi, including Pol-e-Khoshk, Tank-e-Tel, some shopping malls, including Barchi City Center, Bahar-e-Sarab and City Walk, according to the sources.
Hamidullah*, an eyewitness, told Rukhshana Media that six girls and women were first surrounded and then detained from a shopping mall in west Kabul.
“The Vice and Virtue police raided Barchi City Center,” he said. “They asked the female police officers to arrest and take them to the tinted glass vehicles outside the shopping mall.”
Female police officers had batons and used them against whoever resisted, he said.
He added that the Taliban also treated men violently and threatened to leave the area.
The number of girls and women detained and their whereabout is unclear, according to the sources.
Previously the Vice and Virtue police harassed, insulted, and humiliated women and girls across the country for “improper” hijab.
