Fifteen members of a family were poisoned for consuming poppy leaves with their food in Kama district of Nangarhar province, local sources said.
Rahimullah, a resident of Nangarhar province, says the incident happened on Friday evening in Talayi area of the district.
He added that the patients were transferred to the health center of the district for treatment.
Another source in a Kama district hospital confirmed that at least 15 members of a family, including women and children, were brought to the health center for treatment.
After a medical checkup, the doctors diagnosed the patients had consumed poppy leaves as vegetables, the source in the hospital said.
Another source in the district said the Taliban has started investigating the case.
Last year, in a similar incident, 12 members of a family were poisoned in Rodat district of Nangarhar province, and two of them succumbed due to severe poisoning.
People still cultivate poppies in some parts of the country.
Earlier, the Taliban de facto government claimed that poppy cultivation has reached zero in the country.
