The Taliban have publicly whipped 63 individuals, including 15 women in Sar-e Pol province on Tuesday, local sources confirmed.
Sar-e Pol governor’s spokesperson Habibullah Masroor also confirmed the incident and said that they were flogged for various charges, including robbery, adultery, running away from home, and sodomy.
He said they received 15 to 39 lashes.
A local source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the incident happened at Sar-e Pol City’s stadium.
Since assuming power in August 2021, the Taliban have whipped hundreds of people across Afghanistan, a move that has sparked widespread human rights organizations’ criticism.
