A bride has been shot dead on her wedding day in Nangarhar province after a Taliban opened fire on the wedding convoy after they heard music being played, local sources say.
A local source in Nangarhar province told Rukhshana Media that the deadly shooting took place on Friday noon in Shagi village of Koz Kunar district of the province.
“Taliban forces shot at a car at a checkpoint for playing music, and the bullet hit the bride and killed her,” the source said.
The Taliban has banned playing music in all public and private places, and those who play, create or listen to music are treated as criminals.
A similar incident occurred in June last year, when the bride and one other person of a wedding party were injured after the Taliban shot at the bride’s car in Surkh-Rūd district of the province for playing music.
The Taliban has enforced the ban on music with several reports of people being arrested in provinces across the country, including Kandahar, for listening to music.
The Taliban has ordered all the wedding halls in Kabul city and other provinces to refrain from playing music at weddings to celebrate, and ordered radio and television networks to not broadcast music in their shows.
