Dozens of Afghan refugees, including women and children, took part in a protest on Saturday, June 21, in Islamabad, calling on western countries, particularly Germany, to review and accept their asylum applications.
A female protester, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the protest was organized because the German foreign minister, who visited Islamabad a few days ago, didn’t meet with Afghan refugees.
The protesters said in a statement that the Taliban’s ten months rule shows they haven’t changed much compared to the 1990s when the group first seized power in Afghanistan.
Afghans working with the foreign organizations, journalists, and activists, and members of the former government’s security forces, who were left behind, were brutally persecuted by the Taliban, the statement added.
“Terrorist attacks continue, even on schools and mosques, carried out by Daesh and other groups,” the statement said. “Despite the catastrophic situation in Afghanistan, the German federal government has arbitrarily stopped the evacuation process.”
