The Taliban banned BBC, VOA, and DW broadcasters from airing their programs, closed a local radio station in southern Afghanistan and detained three of its employees.
Some Afghan television networks aired the news and other TV shows of BBC, VOA and DW inside the country. The Taliban ordered them to take all these programs off-air.
BBC, VOA and DW broadcasters are based in western countries.
DW, a German broadcaster, aired a scientific and educational program in Dari and Pashto languages on local TV channels.
Voice of America said its service in local languages have been halted. It has denounced the Taliban for taking its programs off air and asked them to reconsider their decision.
BBC also announced its programs will no longer be broadcasted in Dari and Pashto languages on Afghan private channels due to the Taliban’s new restrictions.
Meanwhile, the Taliban shut down a local radio station in southern Kandahar province, and arrested three of its employees for broadcasting music on Sunday, said Afghanistan Journalists Center in a statement.
The Taliban in Kandahar had warned local radio stations not to air women’s voices and music.
