Dozens including women and children were infected by an unknown virus in Giro district of southern Ghazni province, a local health official said.
Mawlawi Mohammad Hanif Mesbah, the Taliban’s director of public health for Ghazni province, said the number of cases was around 100 on the first day of the outbreak, and it increased on the second day.
The doctors have yet to Identify the disease.
Mesbah said the likely cause of the outbreak is the use of unsafe water. The residents of Batur village in Giro district have been drinking contaminated water in the past two months.
Some earlier media reports said more than 150 residents of Batur village were infected by an unknown disease which caused severe diarrhea after they drank unclean water.
