World Health Organization has announced that half of the Covid19 vaccine recipients are women in Afghanistan.
WHO said in a tweet on Thursday that 4.1 million people that makes 12.5 percent of the population of Afghanistan have been vaccinated. And 50 of them are women.
WHO has said it support the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) to implement the vaccination in Afghanistan.
Afghanistan has recorded 172901 positive cases, and 7574 deaths since January 2020, according to WHO. But the actual cases and death toll could be much higher.
Afghanistan’s health sector is on the verge of collapse since the Taliban’s return to power last August. Covid19 hospitals have been closed in some provinces including in Bamyan.
