A small group of Afghan women staged an indoor protest, tied their own hands in a symbolic move, and held signs, calling on the Taliban to reopen schools for girls above sixth grade in Afghanistan.
“The protesters chanted ‘work, bread, and education,’” said Nawida Khorasani, one of the protesters. She added the closure of the girl’s schools is the beginning of a tragedy.
“My daughter fell ill after she cried so much for not being able to return to school,” the mother of a schoolgirl said in a video message sent to Rukhshana Media. She said her daughter was an eighth-grade student but she downgraded her to sixth temporarily so she can go to school.
Another woman called on the Taliban not to use education and knowledge as leverage. She said education is a fundamental right of Afghan women and girls and that their fate should not be compromised.
The Taliban didn’t allow millions of secondary school girls to attend school on the 23rd of March.
