A man has shot dead two of his own children and wounded two other family members before later turning the gun on himself in Khost province, local Taliban administration in the province said.
Mustaghar Gurbuz, Taliban police spokesman of Khost province, told local reporters the deadly attack took place during the evening of Friday March 17 in Borikhelo village of Khost’s Gurbuz district.
Mr Gurbuz said the man, named Sardar, was a drug addict who killed his son and his daughter and wounded another son and his niece in the shooting. When Taliban police went to arrest him, Sardar shot himself dead after opening fire on the Taliban guards.
Mr Gurbuz said the incident was being treated as a case of domestic violence.
Reports of domestic violence have been increasing in Afghanistan, although it is more commonly reported that girls and women are the victims.
Last week, a man in Helmand province cut off his wife’s ears and nose because his daughter ran away from home.
The violence has been linked to increasing restrictions and removal of basic rights for girls and women by the Taliban, as well as the institutions supporting human rights and women’s rights being closed.
