A local Taliban health official says a polio case was detected in the Dar-e-Pech district of Konar province on Saturday, September 17.
Mohammad Ishaq Sapai, an official at the Taliban’s Health Department in Konar, says the family of the child, who was infected by poliovirus, had not vaccinated their children.
The name of the infected child is Fawad, and he is over 3-year-old.
“We recommended to her family many times to vaccinate their children,” Sapia says. “But they refused to do so, and as a result their child was infected by poliovirus.”
He says efforts are underway in coordination with the local elders, youth and scholars to vaccinate children below five against the poliovirus.
The last time a polio case was recorded in Konar was in 2020.
