The Taliban has prohibited female artisans from participating in a handicraft exhibition in Kandahar, with male relatives attending in their place, local sources in the province reported.
The three-day exhibition, which began on Saturday, January 4, is being held in Kandahar city.
According to sources, the exhibition was organized to support and market domestic products, particularly women’s handicrafts.
It features over 150 booths, 30 of which are dedicated to showcasing women’s handicraft products, including carpet weaving, embroidery, traditional clothing, and decorative items.
However, the absence of female artisans has made it impossible to engage with them or gather their views on the event.
Organizers hope such exhibitions will help strengthen the local economy and promote domestic production.
An art exhibition was held in Herat city last year, adhering to the Taliban’s strict gender segregation rules.
