The Taliban police detained two young women, photographed them without their consent, then transferred them to the police station on Wednesday, June 29, in Mazar-e-Sharif, a credible local source said.
The incident happened around 11 a.m., and both women were in their 20s, according to the source, who spoke on the condition that we don’t publish his name.
The Taliban detained the women for adultery, the source added, but no men were present or accompanied them during the arrest.
Taliban fighters forced both women to entered a photography shop where they were photographed. They said they needed the photos to add them to their files.
The local Taliban officials in Balkh haven’t commented about Wednesday’s arrests yet. At least 1,247 including 188 women were detained by the Taliban since they took power in August, Rukhshana Media’s finding shows.
