The Taliban fired all five female health workers of a clinic in Maiwand district of southern Kandahar province because they weren’t accompanied by male companions on Wednesday, June 29, local sources said.
Two nurses, a vaccinator, a midwife and a health officer, all working at Maiwand Bashir Health Center, were among those fired by the Taliban, according to a source who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
A source from the Baran Institute, a health institution affiliated with the Kandahar Public Health Department, confirmed the report, saying they were trying to meet with local Taliban officials in the province to resolve the issue.
