The Taliban Ministry of Education ordered the resumption of all middle schools, high schools, and religious schools for boys from today, September 18.
The minister’s statement added that male teachers and students can attend their schools, but did not mention female teachers and students. Although the Taliban has denied banning secondary education for girls, not providing a timeline for when girls would be allowed to return to school is an indication that the Taliban are implementing their 1990s policies to ban girls education.
The ministry has instructed relevant officials in all provinces to take the necessary measures.
The Taliban had previously imposed restrictions on female students in universities.
In private universities, where classes resumed, a curtain has been drawn between female and male students.
Public universities are still closed. However, the Taliban’s caretaker minister for Higher Education said he will not allow co-education for males and females.
