The Taliban have arrested 18 people, half of whom are women, on charges of prostitution on Saturday in the western province of Herat.
In a statement released to the media, the Taliban police in Herat city said nine men and nine women were arrested for “moral corruption”. While the vague description does not specifically name the charge of prostitution, a Taliban official confirmed it to Rukhshana Media.
“They were arrested for prostitution in a house,” said a Taliban official in Herat, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
“The police personnel of the Police District 9 in Herat city in a targeted operation, arrested 18 people, including 9 women, in the act of moral corruption,” the Taliban statement reads.
“Among those arrested is a woman who encouraged other women to take part in moral corruption,” the statement added.
On Friday, the Taliban police in the northern province of Samangan also released a statement, saying the group has arrested four people, including three women, on a charge of “moral corruption”.
However, the Taliban’s police chief in Samangan told Hasht-e-Subh daily that the four people were arrested in the act of “listening to music and dancing.”
Your bravery is exceptional and precious to us all. May the mediaeval behaviour of frightened men (for how could they behave in such a way if they were not frightened of women’s’ power) be punished one day soon for the obscenity it is to all women, all human beings and to all human rights.
