A woman has died by “accidental gunshot” and another woman has allegedly killed herself in separate incidents in Ghor province, according to the local Taliban administration.
In a newsletter, the Taliban police in Ghor said a 12-year-old boy accidentally shot a woman dead on Monday in Firozkoh city’s Jarsangar area, the center of the province.
The newsletter identified the victim as Gulandam, but provided no further details about her or the identity of the boy who fired the gun.
Meanwhile a woman hanged herself and died on Sunday in Sangan village of Pasaband district.
The local Taliban authorities say that her husband, Amir Mohammad, a member of the Taliban in Ghor, has been arrested in connection to her death, but provided no other details.
Domestic violence has reportedly been increasing since 2021, although there are no official records available. Suicides have also been rising among women and girls. Economic pressures and mental health disorders connected to the extreme restrictions imposed by the Taliban have been blamed as key factors behind the increase in deaths and suicides.
