The employees of Samangan provincial hospital protested non-payment of up to six months salary inside the hospital, in Aybak city, capital of Samangan, on Monday, doctors told Rukhshana Media.
Three doctors who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Rukhshana Media, the employees of the hospital in the northern province of Samangan who have not received their salaries for six months, planned to protest in front of the Taliban governor office in Aybak city, but the Taliban soldiers prevented them from leaving the hospital yard. Instead, the protesters continued their protest inside the hospital’s yard.
Rukhshana Media received several videos of the protest, showing a large crowd of doctors, running and chanting inside the hospital. The protesters, mainly women, chanted “we want our rights.” A man can be heard in the video, threatening the protesters to get back to work. In response a woman shouted, “No, we are not going.” Then the protesters start chanting, “we are not afraid.”
“The Taliban ordered us to go back to our work, but when we didn’t listen, they threatened us. They snatched our mobile phones to stop us from filming their violent behavior,” one of the doctors said.
It was the employees’ second protest in the past two weeks. The doctors said they have not received their regular salary for the past six months and overtime pay, for the past year.
