A 22-year-old woman has died after drinking acid despite attempts to save her life in Faryab provincial hospital.
The woman, identified by local sources as Zahra, was married and had been beaten by her husband at least six days ago after an argument. After that incident, Zahra had gone to her father’s house in Khwaja Zadkhan village of Qaisar district, local sources said.
At about 1.00pm on Friday afternoon, Zahra deliberately drank acid but was discovered and was rushed to Faryab provincial hospital, however she could not be saved and she died at 3.00AM the next morning.
There was no information from the local sources about Zahra’s family or whether she had children.
Experts have said that the unprecedented increase in poverty among families and the high unemployment rate in the country are the main factors of domestic violence and violence against women.
There has also been a rise in the number of suicides among girls and women being reported unofficially. There is no current official record of these statistics.
