A local Taliban official said over 100 people, who were infected by cholera in Mosa Qala district of Helmand province, are suffering from severe vomiting and diarrhea.
Abdullah Hamkar, a Taliban spokesman for the Taliban in Mosa Qala, said the infected people were transferred to the district center, and that they were being treated by doctors.
Drinking contaminated water and inadequate hygiene measures in the communities are the main reasons behind the cholera outbreak, according to health experts.
Baghran, Marja, Garmser, and Greshk districts of Helmand province also witnessed cholera outbreaks recently. Based on media reports, most of those infected by the virus are children.
A local source had told Rukhshana Media on July 10 that about 20 children died of cholera in Baghran district.
