A woman and man have been publicly whipped and jailed for running away from home in Jaghuri district of Ghazni province, according to the Taliban’s supreme court newsletter.
The newsletter said Tuesday that the pair were lashed 35 times and sentenced to one year and six months in prison.
The newsletter said the punishment for running away was handed down after the local and supreme courts heard their cases.
Meanwhile, the Taliban stated in another newsletter that a man has been publicly lashed and jailed on charges of sodomy in Kabul province.
The man received 39 lashes and was sentenced to two years in prison, according to the newsletter.
Despite widespread international and domestic condemnation, the Taliban’s courts continue to order public corporal punishment to men and women daily for various charges.
