A 25-year-old man was flogged by the Taliban publicly after he was charged with adultery in southern Uruzgan province on Tuesday, a local source said.
The fate of the woman, who was detained with him, is unknown. The Woman is in the custody of the Taliban religious police, directorate of Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice.
The source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the lashing took place on Ahmad Shah Avenue in the Trinkot district. He said the victim’s name is Qudratullah, and he was flogged by a water pipe.
The woman’s identity hasn’t been identified yet, and no further information was available about her case, or what punishment awaits her.
Taliban couldn’t be reached immediately for comment about Uruzgan flogging.
Four witnesses are needed to convict someone in adultery case, according to Islamic Sharia. It was known if the condition was met in Qudratullah’s case.
