A drug addict husband sold his wife for 160,000 Afghani in Gurziwan district of northern Faryab province, local sources said.
The exchange happened on Wednesday, July 28, and the police detained three suspects in connection to the incident.
Mohammad Ismail, a criminal investigation officer with the Taliban police in Faryab, said Rasool, the husband, his 35-year-old wife, and a middleman were detained but the man who bought the married woman has managed to escape.
A local source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue, said the wife suffers from mental illness and the husband is an addict. The couple have a 4-year-old son.
The couple are in a Taliban prison.
Selling children and underage marriage are happening more often due to poverty in Afghanistan. But selling married women is rare.
