Up to 200 girls will be able to attend a new religious school named after the former Taliban supreme leader Amir al Momineen Mullah Omar.
The new school, in the Siori district of Zabul province, is part of a network of girls’ religious schools being built around the county, Taliban officials say.
Gul Wali Motaqi, director of the Education Department in Zabul Province, says the four-classroom school has already enrolled 130 girls.
He added that it was a source of ‘pride’ that the number of religious centers was increasing daily and would have a positive effect on society.
The new school is in the Shila area of Siori district, 80 kilometers from the provincial capital, Qalat city.
Mr. Motaqi said it was built with financial support from Amir al Momineen Mullah Omar’s son, Defence Minister Mullah Yaqub.
The Taliban has banned girls from studying past sixth grade in comprehensive schools.
