The Taliban de facto authorities in Ghazni province have publicly executed two men in the provincial capital, Ghazni, after finding them both guilty of separate murders, local sources say.
The execution happened Thursday morning in Ghazni’s Ali Lala football stadium with Taliban forces carrying out the sentence, according to the sources.
Local authorities advertised the execution ahead of time with Ghazni residents being invited to attend.
A source told Rukhshana Media that local officials of the Taliban including the chief justice attended the execution, as well as male family members of the victims, and hundreds of other men from the city.
The Taliban-run Supreme Court named the two men as Sayed Jamal, a resident of Sayed Abad district of Maidan Wardak, and Gul Khan, a resident of Andar district of Ghazni, who were both charged with separate incidents of a murder in their villages.
Sayed Jamal was found guilty of murdering Amir Mohammad with a cold weapon, and Gul Khan of murdering Shah Wali with a knife, according to the Supreme Court statement.
The death sentences were handed down after a judicial process through three courts, and following a review by Taliban supreme leader Mullah Hebatullah Akhundzada, the statement said.
This is the fourth public execution carried out by the Taliban since their takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021.
Previous public executions have been carried out in Farah, Herat, and Laghman provinces.
