The Taliban have issued a five-day deadline for women and girls in Nili, the capital of Daikundi province, to prepare Arab-style hijabs, according to the Taliban vice and virtue statement in the province.
“Women are advised to decide about their Islamic hijabs in five days (June 29 to July 5) and they should observe Islamic and Arabic hijab from the time they leave home, till they get back home,” the statement said.
The statement warned that they would be punished and imprisoned if they did not adhere to the clothing order.
“After the date above, if any woman is seen without an Arabic hijab in the market or government offices, she will be punished and imprisoned,” the statement added.
The Taliban has previously detained dozens of women and girls in Kabul and some other provinces, including Daikundi, on charges of “improper hijab”.
