A small group of women held an indoor protest on Friday, September 2, calling on the Taliban and international community to reopen girl’s schools.
The protest was specifically held against a handful of Taliban leaders, who according to a report by Afghanistan International, are against girls education.
“Open girls’ schools,” read a sign held by a protester.
The Taliban supreme leader, Haibatullah Akhunzada, and his chief minister, Mullah Hassan Akhund, are said to be among five leaders who aren’t allowing girls’ schools to reopen, according to Afghanistan International.
“Girls cannot go to school till I am alive,” Mullah Hassan has said, according to the report.
The Taliban closed secondary schools for girls after they returned to power, and it is unclear when they would reopen them.
“We are an educated generation,” protesters said in a statement shared with Rukhshana Media, “And no group can direct us toward ignorance,”
