A small group of women staged a protest in northern Afghanistan on Thursday, April 14, urging the Taliban to allow girls above sixth grade to return to school as they are allowing their own daughters to get an education.
They criticized the Taliban’s double standard on female education.
“The Taliban have closed girls’ schools in Afghanistan,” said Nawida Khorasani, one of the protesters, “While their own daughters attend the most prestigious universities abroad.”
The protesters said the low-ranking Taliban members should ask their leaders why their daughters pursue higher education while Afghan girls do not have access to work and education.
Protesters accused the Taliban of “enmity with science and knowledge.”
The protest came after Indian media outlets reported that the daughters of some Taliban leaders are studying in Pakistan and Qatar and that they are also playing football.
