A 15-year-old girl hanged herself to death in Jabal al-Sirāj district of eastern Parwan province on Saturday, October 29, Taliban local officials report.
Mawlawi Mohammad Kamran Habibi, the Taliban spokesperson for Parwan police, said it was being treated as a domestic violence case, but he did not provide details about the identity of the victim.
Our reporter has not been able to contact the family or relatives of the victim, but according to the sources, allegedly she hanged herself at home due to a forced marriage.
A few days ago, a young woman in Ferozkoh city of Ghor province, shot herself to death.
Forced marriages and domestic violence are said to be the main motive behind the suicide of women and girls in the country.
After the Taliban seized power in mid-August last year, domestic violence and forced marriages have been steadily on the rise among families in most provinces of the country.
