A young girl hanged herself to death in La’l Wa Sarjangal district of western Ghor province on Thursday, November 3, a local source reports.
Another source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Rukhshana Media that Hanifa was around 18-19 years old who was suffering from mental illness.
According to the source, she ended her life after a verbal conflict with her brother.
Meanwhile, Abolfida Ghor Badri, the Taliban’s spokesperson for Ghor’s police, confirmed the incident to the local reporters in the province, however, he did not provide further details about the identity of the victim.
According to Badri, the motive behind her suicide is still unclear, and added that Taliban security forces are investigating the case.
Forced marriages and domestic violence are said to be the main motive behind the suicide of women and girls in the country.
Recently, another young girl committed suicide by shooting herself in the head in Firozkoh city, the capital of Ghor province.
After imposing severe restrictions on women’s lives by the Taliban after they took power in August last year, domestic violence and forced marriages have increased unprecedently, and according to women’s rights activists those are the main causes of suicide among women and girls in the country.
