Rohullah Azizi, Alia Azizi’s son, says that he cannot follow his mother’s case due to the security threats, and have no clue about her mother, so far.
He says that his family members are under pressure and threats from the Taliban.
“I was an employee of the prison in Herat province in the previous government,” Rohullah tells Rukhshana Media. “That’s why I am under threat from the Taliban and cannot follow my mother’s case personally.”
According to Rohullah, he and his family are in hiding and changing their locations not to be tracked down.
He adds that the Taliban intelligence summons his father every now and then to find out who he is in contact with and they have taken a commitment letter from him not to talk about his wife to anyone or the media.
Alia Azizi’s son says that it has been more than a year since his mother disappeared and that the Taliban administration has not given them a clear answer, and international and human rights organizations have not provided any assistance for the safety of his family and to find a clue of whether his mother is alive or dead.
Rohullah says that the Taliban have not given them a satisfactory answer, but instead they blame his family for his mother’s disappearance.
“We hear contradictory news about mother,” he says. “Some say that she is killed, some say that she is alive in the Taliban’s prison.”
He adds that the Taliban has intensified their pressures on his family after BBC Persian published a report about her mother.
“The Taliban took my father away, beat him, and imprisoned him for 48 hours because of that report,” Rohullah says.
He adds that his father is now in shock. He doesn’t talk to anyone and is in a very bad mental condition.
“We live in a terrible condition,” he says. “Sometimes, when we have to go out, we disguise ourselves to conceal our identity.”
Ruhollah emphasizes that despite all the pressure and threats, he is determined to file a lawsuit for his mother through the media and civil institutions so that her mother’s case is not forgotten.
Alia Azizi, director of the Women’s Prison in Herat during the previous government, disappeared during the first days of Taliban rule in Afghanistan after she received a call from local Taliban officials in Herat to return to her office.
