At least four died and 50 were infected by chickenpox in the southern province of Zabul, a Taliban local official said.
The outbreak started on Friday night in a village with mostly Kochi or nomad population in Seyori district, said Abdul Hakim Hakimi, the Taliban’s director for the public health department in Zabul.
Hakimi said efforts were underway to curtail the outbreak, and that mobile health teams were dispatched to the Seyori district center to treat sick patients.
Hakimi didn’t say anything about the gender and the age of those infected and killed by the chickenpox in Zabul.
