The Taliban fighters flogged six people for adultery and robbery in Zabul’s provincial capital town of Qalat on Sunday, August 7, a Taliban local official said.
Rahmatullah Hamad Niazi, the director of the Information and Culture department for Zabul province, said an appeal court sentenced all six to be whipped publicly.
Four of the convicts were punished for adultery, and two for robbery.
Mohammad Yonus was sentenced to six years in prison, and Bibi Wasila to two years for committing the act of adultery. The court ordered both to receive 39 lashes each.
The court also sentenced a woman to two years in prison and 20 lashes for facilitating the relationship between Yonus and Wasila. Niazi didn’t provide details about the fourth convict in the case who is also a woman.
The court also sentenced Gul Mohmmad to one month in prison and 15 lashes, and Mohammad Khan to receive 20 lashes. Both were convicted for robbery.
