The Taliban have detained Saday-e-Adalat Radio’s chief in Ghor province for broadcasting the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan’s (UNAMA) message about girls’ education, according to local sources.
A reliable source in the province, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Rukhshana Media the radio’s head Abdul Salam Samim was detained on Thursday.
According to the source, UNAMA’s message was about equality in education for girls and boys, which was also posted on social media pages of the radio.
The source said that the post was deleted after his arrest.
Samim was released after one day of imprisonment, the source said, however, he is not willing to talk to any media for unknown reasons.
Previously, a Taliban court detained and sentenced a Daikundi radio chief to a year in prison for broadcasting content that was critical of its administration, and sealed its office closed.
Like in the 1990s, girls and women are barred from secondary education across the country until “further notice.”
The Taliban have severely limited media publications after August 2021 and have detained, tortured, and imprisoned many journalists in the country.
