A local source from Helmand said the Taliban shot dead two people and wounded three during a house-to-house search operation in Lashkargah city on Sunday afternoon, September 18.
Both dead victims were women and the gender of those wounded wasn’t revealed.
The incident happened when Malik Ekhlas, an elder from the Achekzai tribe, tried to stop the Taliban from searching his house, according to the source. One dead victim is Ekhlas’s wife, and the other one is his sister-in-law. The three wounded are members of his family.
The source spoke on the condition of anonymity due to safety reasons.
Angry relatives and mourners protested against the Taliban, took to the streets, carrying dead bodies outside the Taliban’s governor for Helmand province, he added.
The Taliban have conducted house-to-house across Afghanistan following their return to power one year ago.
